A fresh new year

I'm doing this for my own creative outlet!
This blog will reflect my personal opinions, thoughts and ideas. Maybe I'll gain a few readers. Who knows?

I've been interested in politics since high school. I am a conservative Christian woman a little past middle age. I've lived long enough to see the difference between a Christian nation, where, like Josh McDowell said, parents, schools, churches, entertainment were all on the same page when it came to raising up the next generation to live decent, God-fearing lives. Although a large percentage of America still claims to believe in God, I'm afraid we are now a post-Christian nation.

A Christian Bible teacher come into my elementary school (5th and 6th grade) classroom to teach Bible stories, songs and memory verses. The teacher -- who also posted a Bible verse on the blackboard once -- left the class in her capable hands, and escorted one student to the library. Nobody seemed to notice, and the 30-some students left behind behaved admirably. Even the boy who seemed to get in trouble a lot on the playground, never caused trouble for the Bible teacher.

Years later, I was teaching 4th grade in a South Carolina classroom just a couple of years after integration, and we had a Bible story everyday after noon recess. The school had also just taken down walls between classrooms, combining two large classes into one, with two teachers. They called it an "open classroom." We ended up separating our reading groups -- hers on one side of the room with her desk, and mine on my side with my desk. We did other subjects together, each of us choosing the subjects we liked to teach.

Many years later, in a high school setting I overheard things like the girl who walked into the classroom and announced she was getting her tubes tied. She already had one little girl and didn't want to get pregnant again. Another freshman girl in the hall between classes was bragging about taking on the whole football team.

This "Dorothy" wasn't in Kansas anymore. God help us.

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. -- Titus 2:11-12 KJV  http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible.cfm?b=Tit&c=2&t=KJV
